Participating in STEP
OUTSIDE is easy. Learn tips on the best ways to introduce someone to target
shooting, archery, hunting or fishing. You'll experience the rewards of
expanding your circle of friends who enjoy the outdoors, making a personal
contribution to ensuring a stronger future for your favorite activity,
and being someone's mentor.
It's easy for you and/or
your group to be part of this historic program. It is as simple as asking
someone you know to go target shooting, hunting or fishing. Without a
doubt, a personal invitation from you, an outdoorsman or outdoorswoman,
is the easiest and most enjoyable way for a first-timer to try his or
her hand at target shooting, archery, hunting or fishing. STEP OUTSIDE
is flexible and the opportunities are endless:
An individual can invite someone
to STEP OUTSIDE one-on-one by taking someone out for an introductory
lesson and, if possible, following-up by mentoring that individual until
he/she is proficient enough to go on his/her own. Just a few suggestions
on whom to invite include:
| Wife/husband |
Boss |
Church group
|
Child's teacher |
| Daughter/son |
Co-worker |
Scout troop |
Child's coach
|
| Mom/Dad |
Dentist |
Golf buddies |
Friends |
| Niece/nephew |
Doctor |
Classmates
|
Neighbors |
An individual can present a
STEP OUTSIDE Gift Certificate to an individual
you want to invite. You can present it to him/her on a special occasion
such as Father's or Mother's Day, birthday or Christmas, or anytime to let
an individual know you're willing to introduce him/her to an outdoor activity.
An individual can invite a
group of people to STEP OUTSIDE.
Examples:
- One of your favorite
activities is shooting trap. You also belong to a garden club. Invite
your garden club out to the trap range and arrange for instructors at
the range to assist you.
- As the CEO or supervisor
for a group of people at work, invite your employees to a day of target
shooting, archery or fishing. This encourages team-building among your
employees and everyone has fun together.
- Instead of the usual
networking reception after a community meeting, invite everyone out
to the range.
- You are a retailer
of fishing and hunting gear. Invite a professional woman's organization,
a scout troop, member of a predominantly African-American church, etc.,
out to the fishing hole or the target range for some instructions.
Members of a group
(sportsmen's club, community organization, service organization, etc.) can
hold an outing for a specific group of people.
- Every member of your
group invites someone he or she knows who has never participated in
the activity for an afternoon of instruction.
- Each month invite
out to the target range a different group from your community, such
as the garden club, rotary club, chamber of commerce, professional men's
and women's societies, the news crew from your local TV station, a scout
troop.
- As a shooting club,
why not offer discounted range time for any member who brings a beginner
to the range.
- Members of your group
bring family members for an afternoon of instruction.
Members of a group can promote
an outing or event to either targeted audiences or the general public. The
national publicity for STEP OUTSIDE can enhance the awareness of your existing
events or help you to launch new events.
Examples:
- Hold a women's-only,
youth-only, African-American only, or Hispanic-only STEP OUTSIDE day.
- Set up a casting range
or an air-rifle target range at a public event such as a county fair.
- Hold an event aimed
at the general public that individuals or families can attend.
- Hold a charity STEP
OUTSIDE event that raises funds for a local or national cause that is
of interest to your community.
